The warmth of the support for the LMS expressed on the Save the LMS website surprised me: I hope that the society can tap into this support and will emerge a truly powerful and confident voice for mathematics in the UK.

As John Wilson says, the LMS is held in high esteem and deep affection by its members. This is largely because of the indispensible support it gives to theoretical mathematical research. The profits from publications and the interest on investments are ploughed back into the discipline. Relatively small amounts of money can make a huge difference in supporting research visits and conferences.
